My new ukulele. Little beauty, isn't she! I suppose what I like best about Prudence at this point is that, for whatever reason, she doesn't seem remotely as daunting a learning task as Fresco, my acoustic guitar. Yes, I name things...seems to make them more personal somehow and makes you want to be in contact with them more, maybe. This is possibly why I haven't been learning my violin...haven't named her yet. Someday! But small steps are lovely steps, nonetheless. As it happened, I ended up getting Prudence from a Kijiji meet gone wrong. Well, not wrong I suppose, I did get something pretty sweet out of the deal. I had met a lady to attempt to sell a vintage desk that we currently have in our possession. I met her at my folk's old place in Westmount to show her the desk but she felt we were asking too much. In the end I didn't sell the desk (which is just fine by me because I want to refinish it and put new hardware on it anyway) but she mentioned that she sells and buys a lot through Kijiji. She went on to tell me about the few things she had listed and one was a ukulele she had bought for her 8 year old daughter that her daughter hadn't even touched! It was still in its box - brand new complete with tiny ukulele carrying case. She was asking twenty-five and I, of course, countered with fifteen! Sold! And so I'm excited to get started on learning how to play my little ukulele. I think it'll be perfect for campfire gatherings and small-dark-room bourbon get-togethers. Hurray! Now I must away to the library to pick up my Ukulele for Dummies book.
